Braces: A Growing Trend for Adults

Over the past three years there has been a steady increase of adults in braces. Our office has definitely noticed it. We came up with a few ideas as to why adults may feel more comfortable in braces now than they have in the past.

This increase often times is accredited to our society having an increasing concern in appearance. Although having braces can slow down the physical changes in the aging process by creating a broader more attractive looking smile, we’ve found that often times it’s health reasons driving our adult patients to see us.

Quality of life is important. More and more research is being released about the importance of keeping a healthy mouth because the mouth is the gateway to the rest of the body.

When teeth are crowded and crooked it can make cleaning down in the gums harder, unless you see your dentist to clean below your gums. This leaves pockets for bacteria to brew and then spread to the rest of your body.

Another concern is when your teeth do not come together in occlusion (all teeth touching). This means the upper and lower teeth do not line up resulting in jaw pain, clicking, or popping. These problems are often called TMJ symptoms. Having braces on can guide your teeth and jaw into proper alignment making talking, eating, and general comfort better.

Once someone does come in for their free consultation, they are often relieved to discover that technology for braces has evolved for the better over the past 20 years. Brackets are smaller, treatment is comfortable, and best of all braces can be clear!

All American Tournament

June 29, 2013
10am Sign In
Rancho San Rafael Park
Bring the whole family!

It’s that time of year again when Dr. Andrews is hosting the All American Tournament to raise funds for Renown Children’s Hospital. Last year we raised money towards incubator beds for pre-term babies. This year we will be raising funds towards infant warmers for pre-term babies. These warmers help keep temperatures steady during medical procedures, bathing, and simply being held. The cause is worth it, and there is fun to be had!
The tournament this year will have pie eating, Frisbee toss, horseshoe toss, 3-legged race, and an obstacle
course the whole team can compete in. The event is open to the public so come out and cheer on your favorite team! There will be free face painting and balloon animals.

How can you help?!

We can’t do this on our own, we need your help! There are several ways to get involved with the tournament.
· Enter a team in the tournament. The teams consists of five players with an entry fee of $400.
·Enter an item in the raffle that will be held during the tournament or come to the event and buy raffle tickets before the events begin.
·Donate your time by being a volunteer at the tournament.
·Get a group of friends and family together to come out and support the event.
Every little bit helps! If you want to enter a team or volunteer contact Cassandra at our office.

Meet Dr. Kevin J. Andrews

Dr. Kevin J. Andrews is an artist, but he doesn’t work with oils or watercolors, he works with teeth. Using wire, plastic, glue and bits of metal, he produces world-class smiles in his orthodontic office at 2125 Green Vista Drive, Sparks, Nevada. He’s a guy who loves what he’s doing and can’t imagine doing anything else!
Dr. Andrews was raised in Southern California and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loma Linda Dental School in 1988. He practiced dentistry for two years before returning to school to specialize in orthodontics. He then moved back to Reno where two generations of his family have lived. Dr. Andrews is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, a certified Diplomate of the National Board of Orthodontics and the Former President of the Nevada Orthodontic Association, for the state of Nevada.
In September of 1993, he bought a small practice in Reno and has built it up to its present level. In February 1998, Dr. Andrews relocated his practice to Sparks, Nevada and since then has been welcoming patients to his well-appointed office across from Wildcreek Golf Course. There, he and his team offer what he calls “personalized orthodontics.”
Dr. Kevin J. Andrews is a specialist in smiles. He uses the latest technology to give his patients a new sense of self and says he gets the most satisfaction from, “Knowing that we’re setting our patients up for good health and positive self-images for the rest of their lives. It’s important to me that when they come here, we make them feel special and they do – you can see it in their smiles!” “About 20% of our patients are adults between the ages of 25 and 45,” he says, “although I’ve treated patients as young as 4 years old, and as old as 74.”
The first visit to Dr. Andrews involves an orthodontic evaluation that includes an x-ray, visual examination and computerized digital imaging photographs of the patient’s teeth and face which gives the patient and the doctor a full color view.
